Making A RSS Feed Icon In Adobe Photoshop

A RSS feed icon is an icon that in normally linked to a sites RSS feed. This article will show you how to make a typical RSS feed icon. This icon was made in Adone Photosohp CS3, however you will be able to follow this tutorial smoothly in early versions of Adobe Photoshop. Here is the result:

First make a new 48 X 48 document. Set the background colour to transparent. Zoom in.
Make a new layer. Using the Rounded Rectangle tool, create a rectangle that fills most of the canvas. Set the radius to 6 and use the colour #F27823.

On the rectangle layer go to Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options… Tick the stroke and Inner Glow options in the left-hand-side menu. Click the stroke option and set the size to 1px, and colour to #D2431C.
Now click the Inner Glow option and set the colour to #ED4714. Leave any other options as they are, click ok.
Your icon should now look like this:

Click (U), at the top select the custom shape tool. Select the copyright icon in the shape field.

Select the colour White, #FFFFFF. Make a new layer. Stretch the copyright shape onto your image like below:

Now go to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal.
Your icon should now look like this:

Double click on the copyright icon layer, in the layers planel:

Now select Rectangular Marquee Tool. (M) Delete any of the icon that shouldn’t be there. Also draw a circle with a brush under the 2 curved lines. Make it look like this:

Now go to Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options… check the Outer Glow, and click it. Choose the colour White, #FFFFFF. Set the opacity to 20%.

Make a new layer. Using the rectangle tool, using the colour White (#FFFFFF) set to opacity 25% draw a box over half the shape like below:

Now you’re finished, zoom out and view your finished product:
